Drama
The play's the thing Hamlet
Drama enables students to develop their vocal and physical communication skills and gives them the opportunity to engage in practical and imaginative creative activities. The Drama program at Fintona emphasises group participation with a focus on the development of self-awareness and self-confidence.
Drama is a compulsory subject from Prep to Year 8, with specialist Drama teachers in the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools. Drama becomes an elective from Years 9 to VCE. Drama and Theatre Studies students stage an annual VCE production, as well as solo performance evenings. Electives on acting and writing for the screen are also offered.
Drama Day is a House Performance Competition held in December that is overseen by Year 11 students. It is one of the highlights of the year and involves all girls from Years 5 to 11. Each House creates a movement piece and a dialogue piece based on a common stimulus to be presented at a public performance.
Fintona presents an annual school production in Term 3. All students from Year 7 and above are invited to audition for parts. Students are also involved in all areas of production, including design, costume, lighting and sound. In 2009, Fintona students delighted audiences with their production of Caucasian Chalk Circle, a tale full of romance, danger, comedy and adventure. The play examined the plight of women and children in times of war and explored the themes of courage, love and justice.
Other popular extra-curricular drama based activities include involvement in Tournament of Minds and J-Rock.
