International Students

Situated in the inner eastern Melbourne suburb of Balwyn, Fintona is an independent, non-denominational day school for girls, easily accessible by public transport.

Fintona's VCE results consistently place it among the top performing schools in Victoria and are the culmination of the personal attention students receive in a small school. From its commencement in 1896, Fintona has espoused the view that 'girls can do anything' and has encouraged students to be critical, independent thinkers empowered to take their place as active, effective citizens and leaders. We are proud of the fact that our senior students achieve the tertiary course or career of their choice.

Fintona welcomes overseas students and provides a friendly, supportive environment that encourages the educational development and personal growth of all international students.

Like the rest of our students, Fintona's international students have also achieved excellent results allowing them to pursue the career of their choice. Our staff together with our International Student Co-ordinator are available to support students, parents and guardians, to assist with the transition of all new students into the School in every possible way.

Due to our small size, we are only able to offer a small number of places for students from overseas in Years 7 to 12. An overseas student is a girl who is not an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident or a refugee.

What we require

Fintona requires international students who are not proficient in English to take an English program when they arrive in Australia. All students must supply a copy of their AEAS report when applying to Fintona. These requirements are to assist our international students make a smooth transition into school life at Fintona. Fintona needs to be assured that overseas students have suitable adult support. All overseas students must have a guardian or member of their family living in the country who can speak English. Students must live in an approved homestay even if they are over 18 years of age, and all living arrangements must be checked and approved by the school. International students must remain at school until the end of term.

How to apply

To apply, students need to complete the Application for Admission form, and return this form together with:

A copy of their passport. Latest school report (English Translation). Results of English language assessment test. An Application Fee of $220 (inclusive of GST).
