Overview
Fintona students stand out as high achievers
For approximately 600 students Fintona offers a broad range of programs that provide excellent opportunities for personal growth and development. In a supported environment underpinned by social justice and responsibility, Fintona girls stand out as high achievers. Fintona is consistently ranked among the top VCE performers in the State, and in 2008 came second in a list of schools with the highest percentage of students enrolled at university.
The atmosphere in our small class sizes is positive and encouraging. Exceptional teachers stretch their students beyond expectations to help them achieve their best. Our students are well known by their teachers and are given every opportunity to thrive in the classroom and beyond.
In our Early Learning Centre (ELC), our programs are based on world-renowned philosophies (Reggio Emilia and PYP), inspiring our young students to explore, question and discover knowledge in an atmosphere of friendliness and fun.
In the Junior School, Prep to Year 4, the Primary Years Program (PYP) frames the learning for students based on an in-depth, inquiry based approach. The PYP is an international program that creates a relevant, engaging and challenging educational framework that addresses five essential elements: concepts, knowledge, skills, attitude and action. This program focuses on the total growth of the developing child.
The Middle School, from Years 5 to 8, is a time of tremendous change. Our programs have been thoughtfully designed giving priority to developing skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and good study and research habits laying the foundation for success in the final years at school.
Senior School students, from Years 9 to VCE, can select from a broad range of subjects depending on their personal interests, enabling them to take charge of their future. The majority of Year 12 students at Fintona seek university places at the conclusion of their studies. Most of these students gain entry into the university course of their choice. Opportunities for building resilience, self-esteem and responsibility abound in the Senior School years through leadership positions, cultural exchanges, the Connections Program offered in Year 9 and House activities.
