Student Health & Wellbeing
Building a positive, connected and caring community
Fintona Girls' School sees the emotional, physical and social wellbeing of each student as paramount. Our girls belong to a small community where a sense of belonging and connectedness is experienced. A Fintona girl knows she is important to all staff for whom her welfare is central. She will be concerned about her fellow students and about her immediate environment, and excited by opportunities to see the wider world, celebrate its diversity through the Year 9 Connections Program, overseas trips and exchanges and a rich program of social justice and cultural celebrations.
We understand that in today's complex society, young girls are faced with many challenges and benefit from opportunities to discuss them openly with staff and peers. To that end, we have developed a range of programs designed to equip our girls with confidence, respect, tolerance, courtesy and resilience. Our extensive wellbeing programs and services include:
 |
- Life Skills - taught from Years 7 to VCE encompassing discussions of physical fitness, nutrition, social interaction, personal safety, cyber issues, drugs, safe parties, and how to make the transition from school to university.
- Study Skills - taught from Year 7 and aims to teach our girls good study habits
- Careers Co-ordinator - provides advice, information and tools to assist our girls make decisions about their future career pathway.
- VCE Co-ordinator - assists VCE students make the right subject choices based on the students' strengths and interests.
- Pastoral Care - through our Counsellor, girls are supported to address their physical, social and emotional needs.
- Before and After School Care programs - assist busy families when school hours do not suit.
- Community Service programs enable our girls to recognise the needs of others, empowering them to believe they can make a difference.
- A buddy system operates informally and formally throughout the School bringing together girls across different year levels to provide additional support and care.
- Open communication builds close relationships between class teachers and parents about student progress.
- Our girls and the rest of the Fintona community will be enjoying a new state of the art Health and Wellbeing Centre in 2010. The Centre will provide Fintona students with even more reasons to feel confident and optimistic about their future and is testament to the importance placed on wellbeing by the School.
