Life Skills
Developing coping mechanisms for everyday survival
As with Community Service, we believe that Life Skills are integral to the emotional and psychological development of our students. The program is taught both explicitly and implicitly in both the Junior and Senior Schools in ways that are appropriate to the students' age groups. The implicit teaching is inherent in the mutual respect that is developed between staff and students, the leadership opportunities presented to the girls and the encouragement they are given to be articulate, tolerant, flexible young women with a well developed sense of citizenship and a strong set of values.
The program includes sex education from Year 6. From Year 7 onwards, the students are taught about the importance of physical fitness and nutrition, social interaction, personal safety, cyber issues, safe parties and how to make the transition from school to university.
Students in the Junior School at Fintona use the Life Education program from Prep to Year 4 with the focus being primarily on health and safety.
