Friends of Music

Friends of Music is an enthusiastic group of parents who work closely with Fintona's Music department to provide support to the School's music program. The group meets regularly during the school year, putting forward ideas, discussing various alternatives, all with the aim of improving the music program at Fintona.

One of the major events that Friends of Music is involved in is the annual Cabaret Night performance, one of the School's most popular events, held at the school in Term 1 or 2. Cabaret Night is a wonderful opportunity for students of various levels to showcase their talents. Friends of Music is involved in all aspects of organising the evening, and music department staff arrange for auditions from students and even members of staff. Each Cabaret Night is based on a different theme, the most recent themes being ‘The Sound of Musicals', ‘Masquerade' and ‘Moulin Rouge'.

Cabaret Night is also a major fundraising activity for Friends of Music, with many of the prizes and auction items provided at Cabaret Night generously supplied by local businesses.

Fundraisings from Cabaret Night and other fundraising activities during the year are used to assist in worthwhile expenditure in the music department at the School. Previous expenditure has included various musical instruments and sheet music, and visits to the School from music professionals. More recently, Friends of Music jointly purchased two new pianos for the School, in conjunction with the School.

Friends of Music meetings are held of an evening at the Reid Studio every six to eight weeks during school terms, increasing to every fortnight as Cabaret Night approaches. Dates of forthcoming meetings are advertised in the fortnightly News Bulletin. Parents are more than welcome to attend meetings, as well as the Annual General Meeting held at the beginning of Term 1. Previous minutes are emailed prior to the next meeting. If you would like to be included on the distribution list, please contact one of the committee members listed below.
