What our parents say about FintonaBeing involved as a parent and feeling that I really know the people in the school is what I like most about Fintona.

Friends of Rowing
Friends of Rowing is the parent support group that assists with the fundraising and operation of the rowing program at Fintona. Participation in Friends of Rowing is an important part of the Fintona rowing experience and one of the ways for parents to engage themselves in the life of the School.
Friends of Rowing is led by a committee of parents, together with several members of staff in liaison roles.
The principal activities of Friends of Rowing are:
Fundraising for the capital program
Rowing sculls are expensive pieces of equipment and need maintenance and replacement. Friends of Rowing raises funds each year to match the School's commitment, ensuring the program's vitality and continuity. Fundraising is one of the key networking opportunities parents have with each other and with the rowing crews. In recent years Friends of Rowing parents have earned the group an enviable reputation with their annual Trivia Night competition and the team is past masters at sourcing and delivering Bunnings' sausage sizzles.
Logistical support of the rowing program
Friends of Rowing parents car pool to cover transport of the crews to rowing training sessions on the banks of the Yarra River. This demonstrates a level of teamwork and interdependence that is mirrored by the girls themselves as they grow to understand how success is a shared outcome. Also, parents provide support at regattas, setting up the Fintona tents for both spectators and crews. They arrange the start of season rowing breakfast, and the annual Friends of Rowing crews' dinner and the rowing awards.
Crew Cheer Squad
The sound of parents cheering encouragement from the bank is a morale and performance lifter for the crews, not to mention making the parents feel involved and committed! It is also an important role model of good sportsmanship for the girls and is a trait common among all the parents and schools who have crews rowing in the competitions. Friends of Rowing is a great way for you to be involved in the life of the School as a member of a practical group of parents in a very hands-on sport. It provides support to your daughter's chosen sport and it takes you to exotic locations all over Victoria at the strangest times of the day!
