In 2019, VCE Visual Communication Design students enjoyed an afternoon hearing about the practice of Vicky and Victoria, two female architects from Lyons Architecture. The students learnt about what it means to practice as an architect, how inspiration is interpreted and applied to building projects and the relationship between the client and design studio. Within the Visual Communication Design program at Fintona we value inviting practising female designers into the classroom to meet the students and champion working in the design industry. The students were inspired by their knowledge of the design process and experience working collaboratively within design studios.
The Beyond Science Centre is located directly in front of Fintona's design studio, so the class has been able to see the application of design specifications and technical conventions firsthand. This week, Elisha, Luka and Shannon were given the opportunity to tour the building site with Simon from McCorkell Constructions, Ms Falloon and Ms Sanders. It was a great chance for students to see the design process in action providing authenticity to their learning.
