What do you find most satisfying about teaching our youngest students?

I gain a huge amount of satisfaction from seeing young children learn. Whether it be learning how to separate from their parents at the beginning of the year to being able to have the confidence to perform for their families and teachers at the end of the year concert. Throughout the year I enjoy getting to know each child individually and developing their young minds to their full potential.

What do you believe is the best way for young children to learn?

Young children are naturally curious, as educators it is our responsibility to facilitate children’s learning. In an early childhood setting the most effective way to do this is through play. Play that is developmentally appropriate, planned for, and inquiry based.

How would you describe the atmosphere in the ELC?

The atmosphere in the Early Learning Centre is one of fun, friendliness and organised chaos! There is a constant buzz of chatter, laughter and noise. It is a rich environment filled with examples of children’s learning and documented conversations, amazing art and beautiful photos.

What do you like to do when you’re not teaching young girls and boys or running the ELC?

I love to spend time with my family and friends. Our boys are sports mad, so I am often found at a footy or cricket ground on the weekend. We also like to travel and are always planning “the next holiday.” And of course we love to visit cafes and try out their coffee!
