Peter Craig School Award in Science Talent Search
With five major bursaries, 14 minor bursaries, 19 distinctions and seven merits, Fintona has once again been awarded a Peter Craig School Award recognising the high quality of student entries submitted for the Victorian Science Talent Search.
STEM learning is an important part of the educational journey of the girls at Fintona. They will need to be able to understand and apply data and to develop solutions to problems in their future careers and these are also important life skills that they will need in order to be prepared for life in an ever-changing world.
Each year, our Year 5 – 8 students complete a project in their Science classes which aims to engage them in STEM, nurture their curiosity and improve their scientific skills. The students choose a project based on scientific investigation, innovation, engineering or research. A selection of these projects is then entered into the Science Talent Search, an annual, science-based competition open to all primary and secondary students in Victoria.
We are very proud of every girl who submitted their project for the Science Talent Search competition this year. Fintona was once again awarded one of the Peter Craig School Awards recognising the high quality of entries submitted over the breadth of sections in the competition. Major bursaries were awarded to five of our students, and minor bursaries to fourteen students. Nineteen girls were awarded Distinction and seven achieved Merit awards.
