Years 9 to 12 students and their parents are provided with up-to-date information about tertiary study and post school opportunities through the fortnightly Careers Gazette, and the inFintona Careers page.
Work Experience is a key component of the Careers Program and is completed by all students for a week during Year 10.
In preparation for work experience, the girls carry out a range of activities such as completing their Safe@Work modules. To develop their communication skills they are encouraged to source their own placements, having been provided with tips on applying for positions. This includes information about writing resumés and covering letters. Many students find their Work Experience a valuable tool in making decisions about their future career pathway.
In Year 10 students are offered comprehensive career testing and follow up, and in Year 11 and 12 have regular presentations from external speakers to assist them in their decision making.
The Careers Coordinator works very closely with the Year 12 students both individually and as a group, overseeing all tertiary applications.
Careers Events
Careers Evenings and Breakfasts provide insight and inspiration for students to explore new jobs and industries. Old Fintonians from a diverse range of career paths share their career journeys with students through a keynote address before students and parents have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about a particular field. A broad range of career paths are represented, including: engineering, health sciences, business, marketing, engineering and law. Past students share firsthand insights into what they actually do in their job, how they got to where they are, and information about what is happening in the job market today.
