Murrundindi visits ELC, Junior School and Middle School
‘You all have a culture… speak up…we are all equal’. These were the core messages conveyed by Murrundindi Wurundjeri Ngurungaeta, head man of the Wurundjeri people, when he ran incursions for our ELC, Junior School and Middle School students to foster awareness, respect and appreciation of Australia’s Indigenous culture.
A ‘welcome song’ and a traditional smoking ceremony, didgeridoo playing, drawing of Aboriginal symbols, writing stories, examining historic artefacts, and trying on kangaroo and possum skin cloaks were just some of the activities students experienced, giving them unique insight into Aboriginal culture from a First Nations elder.
