WELCOME TO FINTONA GIRLS' SCHOOL

Situated in the inner eastern suburb of Balwyn, Fintona is an independent, non-denominational day school for girls whose VCE results consistently place it  among the top performing schools in Victoria and are the culmination of the personal attention students receive throughout their education in a small school.

From its commencement in 1896, Fintona has espoused the view that 'girls can do anything' and has encouraged students to be critical, independent thinkers empowered to take their place as active, effective citizens and leaders. Our friendly, supportive and caring environment, together with our broad based education program provide our girls with many experiences to stretch themselves beyond expectation and to cope with life beyond school.

Our beautiful school grounds include a mix of historic buildings and modern facilities such as our newly refurbished Early Learning Centre and landscaped, eco-friendly gardens in the Junior School.  A state-of-the-art Health and Wellbeing Centre will be completed in 2009, providing our girls with even further opportunities for moving into the future with confidence and optimism.

The curriculum
Fintona consists of the Early Learning Centre (co-educational), Junior School (Prep to Year 4), Middle School (Year 5 to Year 8) and Upper School (Year 9 to Year 12) to enable a specific academic and pastoral focus. The Early Learning Centre curriculum is based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy, while the International Baccalaureate is taught from ELC to Year 6. Scholarships are available from Year 5 to Year 11.

Join us for our next Tour Morning

Wednesday 22 July

9.30am to 10.30am

Tours of ELC, Junior & Senior Schools

We warmly invite you to come along to our Tour Morning where you can meet our Principal, Mrs Suzy Chandler, tour each of our campuses and speak with our teachers and students.  The tour morning will commence with an address by the Principal in the Reid Studio on the Senior School campus.  Our students will be able to direct you to the Reid Studio upon arrival.  This is the perfect time to discover for yourself why Fintona is consistently placed amongst the top schools in Victoria.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.  Bookings are not required.

Fintona one of few schools to participate in the

GreenHouse Games

Fintona is delighted to announce that we are one of only a small number of schools who have been invited to be involved in the Green House Games pilot study, an initiative of the Victorian Government.  The Games consist of an eight week challenge between schools and involves students' families as well.  The challenge is to reduce a home's yearly greenhouse gas emissions by one tonne or twenty thousand black balloons. Families can register as of the 15 June at greenhousegames.vic.gov.au and we are hoping for a minimum of 100 school families to be involved.

2009 Annual Giving

Your gift can support student success

We are delighted to launch this year's Annual Giving focusing on Scholarships. Last year, your generous gifts helped to create a magnificent new Junior School garden.  We thank all our generous donors for their support and for ensuring that Fintona continues to develop as an outstanding learning environment  for today's students and future generations.
