Our VCE Physical Education students headed to a hi Our VCE Physical Education students headed to a high-energy 7am workout at Hurt Locker Gym in Richmond recently as part of their studies into how movement skills develop.

The session brought learning to life, as students experienced how the body responds to exercise and began exploring the cardiovascular, respiratory and muscular systems, energy production, fatigue and recovery.

It was a fantastic way to connect classroom learning with real-life movement and was an energising start to the day!

Our Early Learning Centre boys and girls were deli Our Early Learning Centre boys and girls were delighted to welcome eggs and chicks into their classroom 🐣

Watching the chicks hatch one by one was an exciting lesson in patience, as each hatched at its own time. Students loved feeding, holding and observing the chicks, and this inspired many to draw pictures of the 'chicken family'.

This hands-on experience sparked thoughtful conversations about how we care for chicks and other living creatures.

87th Shakespeare Day 🎭 Fintona’s Shakespeare 87th Shakespeare Day 🎭

Fintona’s Shakespeare Day began modestly in 1938, with students reading sonnets in assembly to celebrate William Shakespeare’s birthday. It has since grown into a much loved tradition featuring performances staged in the Tourmont Courtyard.

This year, students, staff and guests enjoyed scenes from Romeo and Juliet (Year 9), Much Ado About Nothing (Year 10), Hamlet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Year 11), and The Merchant of Venice (Year 12), along with an entertaining staff performance from Romeo and Juliet.

Congratulations to all performers, backstage crew and our Year 11 Masters of Ceremony for making the day such a success.

Fintona’s 40 Years of Rowing Anniversary Dinner Fintona’s 40 Years of Rowing Anniversary Dinner brought together past and present rowers, families, coaches and supporters for a celebratory evening at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Honouring a proud legacy built on teamwork, resilience and school spirit, we celebrated the generations of young women who have taken up an oar and discovered strength, resilience and teamwork, attributes they have carried and will carry long after they leave the water.

The evening featured guest speakers including Alumna, Louisa Rose (Class of 1987), inaugural Captain of Boats, and current staff member Alex Harrison, our longest-serving Rowing Coordinator, with Jane Horne, former Head of Sport and regular Head of Schoolgirls Regatta commentator, as emcee. The dedication and achievements of our current rowers were also recognised with a presentation of the End of Season Awards.

It was a truly memorable night, and a powerful reminder of the community behind Fintona Rowing. As we enter our fifth decade, we look ahead with the same passion, energy and fearlessness of those who came before.

Fintona Girls’ School recognises the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have educated children throughout Australia for thousands of years and continue to have a connection to land, waters and culture. We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, traditional custodians of the land on which we learn and work, and pay our respects to the Elders and educators past, present and emerging.
