Exceeding Expectations in Early Learning
Fintona's Early Learning Centre has achieved the rating 'Exceeding' under the National Quality Standard (NQS) across all seven quality areas. It's a result that speaks directly to our motto, Age Quod Agis: Do What You Do Well.
The NQS sets the national benchmark for early childhood education and care, and an ‘Exceeding’ rating is reserved for services where excellence isn’t occasional; it’s embedded. It’s earned through consistent, high-quality practice, constant reflection, and genuine partnership with families and community.
The assessor’s report captured exactly what makes our ELC special. Children are known, valued, and supported to build meaningful relationships – with educators, with peers, with family. Everyday moments build confidence, kindness, and emotional wellbeing, while a collaborative environment gives children the chance to listen, negotiate, problem-solve and belong.
Terese Francis, ELC Learning and Operations Leader, put it simply: while the result is one to be proud of, it’s the relationships behind it that matter most. ‘Every day we see educators, children, families and the wider Fintona community learning and growing together. This outcome reflects the collective commitment, care and dedication that make our ELC such a special place to belong.’
The NQS assesses seven quality areas critical to a child’s development: Educational Program and Practice, Children’s Health and Safety, Physical Environment, Staffing Arrangements, Relationships with Children, Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities, and Governance and Leadership.
Fintona’s coeducational independent kindergarten now stands among a select group of ELC services nationally to exceed every single one.
